Maintaining a neutral-tension state and a consistent relative humidity (RH) of 40–50% ensures the cuticle remains sealed and the adhesive bonds (for tape-ins) stay chemically stable between wear cycles.

I.  Storing Unused Hair Extensions

For Extension Types Without Adhesive (e.g., Clip-Ins, Ponytail, Halo Hair)

• Keep them in their original packaging—it’s designed to protect the hair from dust, moisture, and tangling.
• Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

For Adhesive-Based Extensions (e.g., Tape-Ins, Pre-Bonded Hair)

• Do not remove the backing or adhesive if they haven’t been applied yet.
• Ideal environment: cool, dry spot, and no direct sunlight—think a closet shelf (not near the bathroom or heater!) or a dresser drawer. Too hot, and the tape gets sticky/melts; too damp, and the bonds can mold or lose their hold. Ideal environment: room temperature, low humidity, and no direct sunlight.
• Don’t crush! Lay the extension wefts flat, not folded or piled under other stuff. Crushing can ruin the adhesive’s shape, so give them their own little “spot.”

• Add a little oil (but not too much!): Once they’re mostly dry, use 2–3 drops of argan oil or detangler spray for hair extensions (silicone-free is best—silicone builds up!
• Comb again: When they’re fully dry, comb through one more time to make sure there are no tangles.

• Use a dedicated extension bag: Invest in a breathable mesh or dedicated extension bag. These keep dust out, let air circulate (no mold! no tangling!).
• Lay them flat or hang them: If your bag has hangers, clip the extensions to the hanger (by the clips, not the hair!). If not, lay each weft flat in the bag—don’t fold or pile them.Gently fold the extensions and place them in a breathable hair storage bag (like satin or mesh).
• Pick the right spot: Store the bag in a cool, dry closet—away from heaters, AC vents, and bathrooms (humidity is the enemy!). Avoid sunlight, too—UV rays fade hair color.

Don’t store extensions near perfume, hairspray, or lotion—they’ll absorb the scent and get greasy.
