A simple timeline to help you care for your hair extensions from the first day through regular wear and maintenance.
How to Use This Timeline
This page is a timing guide, not a third full care manual. Use it to see what deserves attention at each stage of wear. For detailed washing, brushing, sleeping, and styling instructions, follow the Removable or Semi-Permanent Hair Extensions Care Guide.
Before You Start: Know Your Extension Type
Semi-permanent Extensions:Tape 、Weft、Prebonded Hair
Removable Extensions:Clip、Halo、Ponytail Hair
1. Right After Installation or First Wear
- Check that the extensions feel secure, balanced, and comfortable.
- For semi-permanent methods, follow any method-specific or stylist-provided instructions before the first wash.
- For removable extensions, confirm clips or wires sit comfortably and remove the set gently after wear.
Detailed care: See the care guide for your extension type.
2. Daily and nightly routine

- During the day, keep the hair smooth and avoid unnecessary pulling or friction.
- At night, remove removable extensions before sleeping.
- For semi-permanent extensions, detangle gently, keep the hair controlled, and avoid going to bed with wet attachment areas.
Detailed brushing and sleep guidance: See the Removable or Semi-Permanent Hair Extensions Care Guide.
3. Wash day
- Detangle before washing.
- Clean gently and condition mainly through the mid-lengths and ends.
- Dry thoroughly; installed attachment areas should not remain damp for long periods.
4. Weekly check

- Look for new tangles, matting, dryness, or product buildup.
- Check whether clips, wires, tapes, bonds, or wefts still feel secure and comfortable.
- Pay attention to any change in tension, movement, or blending.
Escalate when needed: Persistent matting, unusual discomfort, or a loose installed attachment should be assessed rather than ignored.
5. Every few weeks / maintenance stage
- Semi-permanent extensions: assess natural hair growth, attachment movement, root matting, and overall tension.
- Follow the maintenance timing appropriate to the installation method and stylist guidance rather than relying on one universal interval.
- Removable extensions: inspect clips or wires and check whether the set needs cleaning before continued storage and wear.
Professional maintenance may include adjustment, move-up, reinstallation, or removal depending on the extension system.
6. End of wear cycle
- Removable extensions: remove gently, clean when needed, dry completely, detangle, and store properly.
- Semi-permanent extensions: use the appropriate professional removal process; do not pull or force attachment points.
- Before reinstallation or replacement, check the condition of the hair, scalp, and attachment areas.+
